Kannawidan Festival: A Showcase of Ilocano Culture

Northern Luzon is housing the province rich in culture that represents the ancient Spanish and Filipino heritage. To show and share the treasures of the province to the world, locals conceived a festival that highlights these cultural traditions and call it "Kannawidan Festival", the festive celebration of Ilocos Sur.

Kannawidan is an ilocano term that means "feast of rich heritage and culture". The celebration of the festival is not only to showcase the Ilocano culture but it also marks the separation of Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.

Various festivities were staged from trade, agriculture, aqua, livestock while a display of farm products. All of the municipalities are setting up booth to display their own One-Town-One-Product. As the festival talks about the culture and traditions of the Ilokanos, culinary treats are also prepared in which residents prepare delicacies in which the province is known for.

The traditional opening, display the identity proofs that there is a culture that we have form through the years, and we'll continue the journey towards future, having the heritage of the province as our identity.

Festive City

Showcasing talents, culture, crafts of different communities, food and the smiles of the people of Vigan will welcome you warmly as you visit the historic City of Vigan and experience the city fiesta and the longganisa festival.

Vigan’s main church, the Metropolitan Cathedral is dedicated to St. Paul and it stands at the core of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia.  The Vigan City Fiesta usually lasts for several days. It includes within the period the celebration of the anniversary of the cityhood of Vigan, which is commemorated every January 27.

Truly, Vigan City has much to offer to people and to the world. Having a festive celebration always makes the month of January special for the people of Vigan. The fiesta is being joined by thousands of tourists or visitors from the Philippines and even from other countries. The visitors are being entertained by the cultural shows, parades and street dancing. The street dancing and showdown is being contested by some students around Vigan and even outside the city. For more colorful and joyful fiesta, food fairs, arts and crafts exhibits and as well as carnival are put up for the visitors to enjoy.

In everything that we do, we always want a change. With all the problems, we wanted a change. But how can you change something if you know, something on you is also worth to change.

When something bad is happening, sometimes they change the player. But, it is better to change the game than to change the player. Before you could do something to others, you should check yourself first. If you know that something is unbearable, change your game, take a small action and increase your self-awareness. After these steps you'll know that you can be the reason why someone is changing, that you can be an encouragement to someone.

As the new year approached me I promised myself to pop out the balloons of bad doings, and start blowing the new me together with 2020. To start a great move, I'll begin first in myself. Helping myself to change lifestyle and routines. I wanted also to get in shape for my own health. Having a stronger faith and belief in God is a necessary every year for me. Because God will help with the other things I want to change in me and do to others.

Starting again as the new year came, I've always been guided with the saying,"You'll never find the right things if you don't let go of the wrong ones."
